Welcome Huddle Haven Team!  We’re excited to introduce you to this week’s guest, Justin Singer.  Justin is Founder of MEKANIX gym and is an Extreme Performance Training, “XPT” Master Coach.

Justin spent many years exploring various paths in his quest to find an interesting, efficient, and effective fitness regimen.  He tried Olympic lifting, long-distance running, various sports including rugby, rock-climbing, and extreme CrossFit.  He wanted to identify training that would keep him strong and healthy; and also allow him to exercise in a way that would promote longevity.

Justin’s journey led him to body weight / functional exercise, in particular, calisthenics.  Calisthenics allowed him to get stronger than he ever was before, it’s safe, it’s made his body more mobile, it’s fun, and it has captivated his imagination for exploring all of our body’s capabilities.

With limited instruction and gym options, Justin launched into the world of entrepreneurship, deciding to create a place that would not only fulfill his needs but also serve as a hub for the Houston community…MEKANIX was born.

Super Bowl Recipes:

Huddle Haven Super Bowl Chili-
2 lbs. beef
1 poblano pepper seeded and dices
3 cans pinto beans drained
1 can diced tomatoes
8 oz tomato sauce
1 can green chilis
1/2 onion diced
2 T. chili powder
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder

-brown ground beef in olive oil
-add onion and poblano pepper
-add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, green chilis and seasonings
-cook on low

Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers-
15 jalapeño peppers seeded and sliced horizontally in half
1- 8 oz. block of cream cheese softened
1 cup parmesan cheese (shredded)
1 package of bacon
salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste
-wash, slice, and deseed the jalapeños
-in a bowl, combine cream cheese, parmesan, and seasonings
-put the cream cheese mixture in the jalapeño opening
-take a 1/2 a piece of bacon and wrap the jalapeño
Cook at 350 for 10-15 minutes.
